I had an email from Carol Johns after she read my letter in the Echo asking for stories and memories of those buried in the cemetery. Mary Ann was the daughter of Joseph who was Carol’s great grandfather and a Sergeant who worked in the Royal Army Medical Corps in Netley Hospital. His wife, also Mary Ann, worked there too.
Apparently Mary Ann Esther Thorn died of dentition convulsions.

1881 census has Joseph 38, Mary Ann 31, and children Emma 8, Joseph James 6, Thomas George 4 and William Frank 1 at Netley Hospital. Joseph was a Sergeant in the army hospital.
1891 census has Joseph age 47 a canteen steward in Netley Hospital and his wife Mary Ann age 41 was a canteen cook. They had 5 children – Emma 18, Joseph James 16, William Henry 11, Fred Charles 7 and Ada Mary 5.
1901 census has Joseph 57 a canteen steward and wife Mary 48 and daughters Emily 27, Ada 16 and Mabel age 6 living at Netley Hospital.
1911 census has Joseph 68 an army pensioner, Mary 60, Mabel, Joe and Fred living at Hound Rd Netley Abbey.
Joseph and Mary are buried in Hound Cemetery.
There is a burial for 6382 William Frank Thorn who died on 21st January 1895 aged 15 years. He was in the Royal Artillery . See photo below.
His burial is no is 995 in the Church of England register.
Update from Carol July 2013 - William Frank died from Diptheria in 1895 age 15. He is buried in the cemetery, Church of England burial no 995.
