John Shardlow King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry put this album together whilst at Netley British Red Cross Hospital possibly in 1915 whilst the Japanese nurses were there.

John was born around 1880 in St. Anns Nottingham to Herbert and Mary Shardlow. He had a brother Herbert and a sister Annie. He joined the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry in 1898 and was discharged in 1919 due to disability. He married Annie Munton in November 1914 and was awarded the Distinguished Conduct Medal for gallantry and devotion to duty during the operations near Le Catelet on 3rd October 1918.

Some information from Ancestry and my thanks go to Brian Ticehurst who lent me the album. If you have John in your family, please get in touch.
